Nokia Lumia 1020 v/s Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is not a ordinary smartphone, trough with its 41-megapixel sensor, optical image stabilisation, and a whole mess algorithms, the 1020's camera is more than just marketing (though there's some of that as well).
Going up against the1020 are 13-megapixel Samsung Galaxy S4 and 8 megapixel Apple iPhone 5.
Unfortunately, the weather in New Delhi City wasn't cooperating when I was testing, so I had done most of my shots indoors. I plan to head back out for a second round of tests, however (hopefully with an HTC One, too).
When looking over the shots below please keep in mind that each of these cameras shoots at different resolutions, and has different lenses and capabilities. This means that, while I did my best to be consistent with framing and conditions, they won't match up perfectly. Also, the cameras were all set to full auto to keep things simple, and because that's really all that's available on the iPhone 5 without resorting to third-party apps.
Lastly, each of the images can be clicked on for viewing all full size, or larger sizes in the case of the portrait and color examples. These are larger images, though, so you may want to right-click and either save or open in another tab/window. If you do click and open the image, head to the lower-right corner to close the image.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 - Drawbacks

I have been using BlackBerry Curve 8520 since 10 months. I had taken this phone because I was crazy about BlackBerry Messenger i.e. BBM. But after using it I found very difficult as there is a special data plan for BBM which is very costly as it does not work with your existing data card of 2G or 3G. If we see its body its very light and its keys damages very easily, so if u are using this phone you have to properly cover it.If I discuss about its apps store i.e BlackBerry World there is lack of free and useful apps in comparison to Play Store of Androids BB World is far behind in my views. The main and the worst problem I found in this phone is it takes a lot of time to switch on after its battery is taken out. From my side I think an android is better than Black Berry.

Which phone I should buy??

If u are thinking of buying a high range phone one phone will always be in your mind that is Apple's iPhone. But I do not prefer it as there are many drawbacks in it that its bluetooth works only with an Apple device only and to to receive songs, pictures, videos you have to firstly connect it to itunes, which seemed to be very difficult. So I prefer you to buy Samsung's high range smart phones for eg- Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4.
And if you are thinking of an lower range phone then I think that HTC is the best one. As I suggested you in my last article about Galaxy Y and its drawbacks. HTC's Explorer, Samsung S Duos are the best phone according to me.

Samsung Galaxy Y- can be interesting

I have been using Samsung Galaxy Y from 2 years. At first it seemed to be very interesting but after that when more phones launched in market in same range with more functions, I was bored from it, but then I thought to do some innovation in it then I tried to upgrade it but I was unsuccessful in that task but after many researches I thought I can upgrade it not really but through any fake software. Then I started discovering more about my phone, then I got a suggestion from my friend to install Jelly Blast in it. Jelly Blast is an open source free software easily available on Google. It is a fake version of Jelly Bean which make your mobile to look exactly same as Jelly Bean. After I came to know about Jelly Blast i got to know about how to install it in my phone. Here are some steps to install Jelly Blast in your Samsung Galaxy Y :-
1. Download Jelly Blast ROM for Samsung Galaxy Y from Google.
2. Place the zip file in your sd card.Do not place it any folder.
3. Then,turn off your phone.
4. After your phone is switched off hold the Volume Up, Power ,Home button altogether.
5. Select apply update from sd card.
6. Then select CWM.zip.
7. In CWM recovery select wipe data and cache.
8. Then install zip from sd card.
9. Choose JellyBlastGenED.signed.zip. Choose Yes.
10. After the ROM has been installed Reboot Your Phone.
11. After your phone is rebooted you have successfully updated your phone to Jelly Blast 4.1.
After installing it I came to know that every thing is interesting, but the problem is that you don't know about it. After you start discovering everything is interesting.

How To Increase Your Lumia’s Battery Life

Change email sync time to 15/30 minutes rather than “as items arrive”- The impact on battery life is obvious, syncing as soon as email arrives is a power sucker; especially when using multiple emails on your phone. I noticed an almost 3 hour increase in battery life when I switched the 4 synced email accounts to retrieve every 15 minutes rather than as soon as it arrives.
Email sync time can be changed from “Email–>Settings–>Sync Settings–>Download New Content”

Disable Xbox live IF you don’t play any Xbox live games online- If you don’t play any games on the Xbox live server (such as Wordament or Alphajax etc.) then it’s a smart idea to turn off the connection to Xbox live; stopping it from constantly searching for friend and game requests.
To disable Xbox live go to the games tile “Settings–>Connect With Xbox live–>set to off”

Set screen brightness to “low” or “Auto-brightness” rather than high- Screen brightness is a huge battery eater, especially on the Lumia 920 which can go up to 600 nits, and goes to a high contrast mode in direct sunlight that helps direct visibility.
To change the brightness go to “Settings–>Brightness–>and change the settings”
Change your maximum data speed to match what your carrier provides- Depending on your carrier/location (not available in the US/At&t apparently); but if you live in an area with poor 4G coverage or spotty reception it’s better to shut off your 4G antenna and save some precious juices.
To shut off 4G/3G go to “Settings–>Cellular/Mobile Network–>Highest Connection Speed”

Disable NFC/Tap to Send if you don’t use it- NFC is a great feature, but unfortunately it’s not exactly everywhere right now (especially outside the US) so if you don’t use NFC much keep it off to so save some battery.
Disable NFC from “Settings–>Tap + Send”

Disable any non-vital applications from running in background- Some apps will run in the background and drain your battery as well as your data plan, to avoid that prevent them from running when closed.
To block background applications go to “Settings–> Swipe to the “applications pane” on the right”–>Disable any non-vital apps (such as Nokia Drive, Baconit, IMDB etc.)”

Ten ways to extend your BlackBerry Z10 battery life

How much battery life you consume may vary, depending on how you use your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. To help your battery last longer, try any of the following tips:

Check for BlackBerry 10 OS Updates

Whenever a new BlackBerry 10 OS update is released, make sure to install it on your smartphone so that you can take advantage of any available optimizations which can help improve your battery life. Typically, you’ll receive a notification of a new update, but to check for updates manually, open Settings, tap Software Updates followed by Check for Updates.
Tip: To access your BlackBerry Z10 Settings, swipe down from top of the screen while viewing your Home screen and tap Settings.

Connections

The radios on your smartphone are designed with efficiency in mind, so turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or NFC as well as changing your cellular connection to use a different network technology may not improve battery life. We recommend using Wi-Fi whenever possible because it offers substantial power savings, so make sure you are actively adding Wi-Fi networks and hotspots to your smartphone as you come across them.
Note: If you’ve set up Media Sharing on your BlackBerry Z10, considering turning off it temporarily if need to maximize your battery life.

Charging

The BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is designed make efficient use of the battery; however, you should still follow best practices to maximize your battery’s lifespan. Always use an official BlackBerry charger, charge for an extended period of time when possible, avoid charging in small increments (i.e. less than 15 minutes), and do not your leave smartphone in direct sunlight (i.e. your vehicle’s dashboard) or in extremely cold temperatures.

Accounts

  • Whenever possible, it is recommended that customers use Active Sync or IMAP over POP when setting up a new account because they are more efficient protocols for a mobile device. If you need assistance setting up a new account, review the BlackBerry Z10 User Guide or contact your account provider for more information.
  • If you have set up multiple accounts that support email, contacts, and calendar synchronization, enable synchronization for accounts that you only plan on using; this will ensure that any activity that occurs is necessary. To review account synchronization settings, tap Accounts within Settings followed by tapping the account you want to customize and/or delete.
  • Remove any accounts that you are no longer actively using to reduce overhead and to prevent them from using the battery to stay updated.

Notifications

If you receive many notifications throughout the day, make sure you review and customize your notification profiles. For example, if your smartphone is set to vibrate, this will use more battery life than having the LED light up as more notifications arrive. If you receive a lot of notifications overnight as well, swipe down from the top of the screen after locking your smartphone to enable Bedside Mode, which will turn off all notifications overnight.

Screen Brightness

A significant way to reduce battery usage is to decrease the brightness of the BlackBerry Z10 display. Within Settings, tap Display and move the Brightness slider to a reduced setting that you find comfortable.

Lock Screen

To prevent accidental taps and presses that can turn on your screen (and decrease battery life), lock the screen by pressing the Power/Lock key on the top of your smartphone.

Screen Lock Timeout

In addition to using the Power/Lock key to lock your screen, an important setting that you should customize is the Screen Lock Timeout. This setting controls how long your smartphone will wait before turning off the screen after being left idle. The less time that the screen is on, the more battery is conserved. To adjust this value, go to Settings, tap Display and change the Screen Lock Timeout.

Use a Case or Holster

Depending on which of type case or holster you are using, putting your BlackBerry Z10 in it may or may not turn off the display. On top of protecting your smartphone, using a case that turns off the display is a great way to save battery life. To browse a variety of these cases, visit http://www.shopblackberry.com or check the available cases that are provided by your local retailer(s).
Note: If your screen does not turn off when you insert your BlackBerry Z10 into the case or holster, verify that you are using an official BlackBerry accessory or contact the manufacturer for additional assistance.

Review Application and Game Refresh Settings

It’s a good idea to review the refresh settings within your favorite third-party apps and games, as some of them might maintain active connections to services or data that is still being transferred.
To learn about a feature on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone or troubleshoot an issue, there are several great options available to help. Visit www.blackberry.com/support for access to product manuals, how-to demos, tips and tricks, YouTube videos, support forums, knowledge base articles, Twitter support, and contact information for your region.

5 Tips to Extend iPhone Battery Life

1: Turn Brightness Way Down & Turn Off Auto-Adjust

Setting screen brightness to be low and disabling automatic adjustments can make a huge difference. If you do nothing else recommended here, do this:
  • Open Settings and go to “Brightness & Wallpaper”
  • Slide the adjuster bar as far to the left as you can tolerate
  • Flip “Auto-Brightness” to OFF

    2: Turn LTE OFF

You may recall that, despite some criticism, Apple didn’t adopt LTE immediately – and the hit to battery life is exactly why they waited. The iPhone 5 definitely gets better battery life than a lot of other LTE devices, but it’s still not great. If you don’t use LTE much, turn it off and your battery will thank you.
    • Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Enable LTE to OFF

3: Turn Off Unnecessary Location Services

GPS uses quite a bit of battery, and many apps use location for a variety of reasons. Thus, every time you open or use a location dependent app, it hits your battery life, which is why turning off as many location aware services as possible helps to prolong battery. Turn this off for literally everything that doesn’t absolutely require it (basically, Weather, Maps, Google Maps, and Find My iPhone, are all that should stay on here).
      • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > flip all unnecessary services to OFF

4: Turn Off Unnecessary Cellular Data Usage

No, you’re not turning off cellular data completely (though that would help, but then your iPhone is obviously much less useful), instead you will turn off cellular data usage for items that just aren’t necessary, like updating iCloud documents, iTunes information, FaceTime, Passbook updates, and Reading List cross-device syncing.
        • Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Toggle everything under “Use Cellular Data for:” to OFF

5: Disable Mail Push and Set Fetch to Manual

This means that your iPhone will no longer check for new mail on it’s own, meaning if you want to know if you have emails awaiting you, you’ll need to launch Mail app and do the pull-to-refresh gesture to check yourself.
          • Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > flip Push to OFF
          • In the same Settings menu, go to “Fetch” and choose “Manually”

15 Ways To Improve Your Android Battery Life

1. Turn-off Wi-Fi
By default, alot of services runs on our Android device but we are too busy to take note. Turn-off your Wi-Fi if you have no use for it. Wi-Fi consumes alot of battery life, you would be amazed how many more hours you can rack up once the Wi-Fi service is turned off.

2. Mobile Network
Just like the Wi-Fi, the network band you set your Android device on plays a vita role in determining how many hours your device can last. 3G and 4G network consume so much resources and power, it is best practice to enable 2G network when you are not downloading or using a app that requires high network resources.

3. Adjust Screen Brightness
Setting your screen brightness to a reduced level will greatly enhance your Android device battery life.

4.Turn-off Auto Update
The auto-update feature available in Android devices eat up alot of power, it gives the device more task in searching for apps that are update-ready. Disable this feature and update apps when ever you feel like. M

5. Disable GPS
GPS is a battery predator, it consumes lots of battery life just like Wi-Fi and/or 3G/4G network. Disable this feature if do not make use of it.

6. Perform Full Cycle Charge
It is best practice to charge your battery only when your device is left with a minimum of 20% battery. Charge up to 100% and unplug device.

7. Case Open
While you are charging your Android device, try to take off the case of your Android device. This is to prevent heat, temperature above 45 degrees isn't good for your device.

8. Reduce Screen Timeout
You can also conserve your Android device by reducing the timeout of your screen. One minute screen timeout should work like a charm.

9. Disable Apps in Background
Many of the Apps you close do not exit automatically, they run in your device background. This also consumes battery power. Keep in mind that no app is running in your background.

10. Use Power Control Widget
Every android device comes with this power control widget, if it’s already in your homescreen, then it's okay. Otherwise long press on your desktop and select the widget and scroll till you didn’t get the power control widget.

11. Close Mobile Vibration
Do you really need that vibration? If you do, you have to choose between vibration and battery life. Only turn on vibration when the condition is right. Maybe in a situation where you don't want sound from ringtones and notification to become a bore to the guys around you.

12. Enable Airplane Mode
Turn on Airplane mode if you are traveling. This also reduces battery consumption.

13. Remove Unnecessary Homescreen Widget
Homescreen widgets also eat up lots of battery power, so make sure to use only those widgets which are necessary.

14. Disable Auto Sync
Auto Sync is used for Google real time synchronization such as Gmail, Google Contacts, etc. If you do not need this feature, do your battery a favor by turning-off the feature.

15. Use power saving apps
Juice defender is one Android app I love, this app is specially designed to help user with lower battery consumption and squeeze more power out of their devices’ batteries.

That's it, if you can perform 14 of the 15 Ways To Improve Your Android Battery Life, you would definitely notice an improved battery life. - See more at: http://www.thatnaijablog.com/2013/05/improve-android-battery-life.html#sthash.0JucHQ1t.dpuf
